Meet Velvet!

Velvet is a Black English Labrador! Her parents are Pink and Cove from Ridge View Labradors, one of RCTA’s Partnered Dog Connection Program breeders. She was born 8/3/2025!

💛 Introducing Velvet 💛

Velvet is a cheerful, mellow little black Labrador puppy ready to explore the world! Though she's small enough to fit snugly in your arms, this sweet girl is packed with a heart full of love.

• Personality: Velvet is the definition of curious. Every new smell, sound, and shadow is an adventure waiting to happen. She's incredibly social, always ready to shower humans and other friendly pets with enthusiastic (if sometimes slobbery) kisses.

• Appearance: Her coat is a nice, thick black coat and has a pretty shine to it!

• Favorite Activities: Napping on the swing or snuggling a staff member!

Basic Commands:

Name: Reliable response to their name

• Ready?: Focus and anticipation for the next command

• Mark: Intense focus on an object for retrieving

• Free: Return to the handler for a reward

• Yes/Good: Positive reinforcement for correct and desired behavior

• No: Gentle guidance towards the desired behavior

• Sit: Classic sit position.

• Here: Come when called

• Down: Lie down on command.

• Leave it: Ignore tempting objects, promoting impulse control.

• Kennel: Enter their crate calmly.

• Climb: Confidently climb onto a platform.

• Inside/Outside: Understand and respond to these directional cues.

• Go Potty

• Load Up: Willingly enter a vehicle.

• Loose Leash: Enjoy walks without pulling.

• Off: Refrain from jumping or getting on furniture.

• Leash on/off and gear on/off: communication of putting training gear on 

Socialization & Confidence Building

Velvet has been introduced to a variety of sights, sounds, and experiences to foster confidence and be well-adjusted:

• Weather Sounds: Thunderstorms and Fireworks

• People: Men, Women, Children and People with different appearances (hats, sunglasses, etc)

• Everyday Objects: Vacuums, Mops, Home Sounds

• Loud Noises: Develop a healthy response to unexpected sounds
